USC Annenberg is using Stroome: How will you use it?

A teaching tool for aspiring digital journalists, a pivotal part of the news producers’ arsenal in the field, a way to collaborate on what’s going on around campus. These are just a few of the ways Annenberg plans to use Stroome throughout the USC community and world at large.

But how will the attendees of Wednesday’s 4/21 launch event use what’s been called “a game changer for online video”?

What the Heck is Stroome, Anyway?

The official Stroome-USC Annenberg launch party is less than five days away, and more than a few of you have been asking, “What the heck is Stroome and what can it do for me?”

Good question. Here are two answers:

Stroome is going to change the way we gather news.

So simple even a child (or in this case stick figure) can use it.

Annenberg Launches Stroome: Collaborative Online Video Editing Platform
Annenberg Room 207, April 21, 2010, 5:00 p.m.

Join Stroome co-founders Tom Grasty and Nonny de la Pena for the official launch of Stroome, recently hailed by the Online News Association as “a new paradigm for digital storytelling and visual journalism.” As the first university to deploy Stroome’s innovative collaborative editing platform, USC Annenberg continues to pave the way as a recognized leader in the digital media revolution. Grasty and de la Pena will be joined by Journalism School director Geneva Overholser and members of the Annenberg faculty as they discuss this groundbreaking digital tool for aspiring content creators.

Annenberg TV News to Start Using Stroome

It’s less than two weeks away from the 4/21 launch when USC Annenberg will announce their deployment of our collaborative editing platform. And now some more great news for Stroome.

Co-founder Nonny de la Pena and I met with members of Annenberg TV News yesterday to bring them up to speed on the platform. Well, they must have liked what they heard because they told us they plan to use Stroome to cut together a few web-based news stories in anticipation of the launch!

For those of you not familiar with Annenberg TV News, I’ll be the first to tell you it’s a pretty impressive outfit. Run entirely by USC students, ATVN is a fully functioning television news multimedia operation. They generate a live nightly newscast broadcast that’s broadcast campus-wide, as well as maintain an up-to-the-minute website.

ATVN is a great breeding ground for aspiring broadcast and digital journalists alike and the stories they cover range from community to politics to international and sports.

We can’t  wait to see what they cover with Stroome.
